About the Artist:
Linda Wisdom is a modern London street photographer and social documentary artist. Her black and white images capture candid moments of urban city and street life. More recently, she has exhibited work taken at Protests in London on the actions of the newly elected American president Donald Trump. As stated in her bio, she is “passionate about photographing people, urban environments and capturing the unexpected beauty & hidden truth in everyday moments.” She also states that “street photography has broadened my imagination to the fact there is beauty in the ordinary and every day. The daily mundane and routine of life can pass you by, if you do not open your eyes, heart and mind".
My Opinion:
I like Linda Widsom’s use of an ideographic approach to capturing street life, and the composition she uses to direct the eyes to one main subject in her photographs, which I will try to do in my own photographs. However, I think that the use of colour in her more recent photographs is quite overpowering and less easily trains the eye to the subject matter, though I think this choice of tone is to make the posters on display more noticable and vibrant.
I also think the original angles Widsom opts to use for some of her photographs are very thought-provoking as, even though the subject's face isn't always visible, it leads the viewer to build their own image of the person and make sense of what is happening through cues such as clothing and the environment. Overall, Wisdom manages to capture ordinary, mundane events, such as waiting for a bus, from interesting perspective which make her street-life photographs unique.

Wisdom also has a series called 'Colour Box', where she captures bursts of colour in a naturally monotone environment, creating almost natural selective-colour images. I will incorporate this into my project as some of my own photographs of street life are very colourful and vibrant and this series could contrast the black and white images.
