Andreas Lie
About the photographer:
Andreas Lie is a Norwegian visual artist who focues on double exposure photographs of animals and landscapes. She generally uses the outline of the animal as the main focal point, and captures vibrant landscapes to be merged as the background. She uses the niche of the animal as the landscape, to tie the two images together semantically.
My personal opinion:
While it may not necessarily be possible to capture wild animals in their natural habitats, I like the concept of Lie’s photographs in that she captures the animal through the landscapes in which they live, showing that their home is a part of their identity. I think I will use this concept for my own photographs, to make each individual photograph meaningful and show that the outline of each portrait represents something more. I also like how Lie captures small details, such as the shadow of the animal and it's fur, to make the photographs more realistic despite the abstract concept.
Photograph Analysis:
Lie merges landscape photographs with animals to create subtly toned pieces. She uses a blank white background, to contrast between the outline of the animal, and reduces the vibrance of the photographs.
